The River Within

The River Within's theatrical release has begun! Between now and the end of September the movie will be playing at movie theaters in Nebraska, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana. If you will be in any of those states and want specific information on what theaters to see it in, e-mail me!

Last night I went to a meet and greet event for the 'whose who' of the Internet TV world. I ran into a couple actor friends of mine and I met several people who have successful Internet shows. It was at a cool little bar in Hollywood and it was a really fun evening.

Second Episode

Friday I recorded another voice over line for the web series My Life Plus Animals. The fun thing about voice over is playing different characters in different episodes of the same show! It is also great because you can go into the studio and record at any time and then they use the lines whenever they need it for the episodes.

Yesterday I spent the day being a tour guide in Los Angeles. Cousins of mine were in town for the day, visiting from England. We went to Venice, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills. We walked on the beach, looked in shops, went to a really neat vegan restaurant and looked around the aquarium in Santa Monica. It was really nice to just spend a day with family, especially since it is family that I don't see very often.

Southwest Airlines

I had an audition on Thursday for a Southwest Airlines commercial. I had auditioned for a different Southwest campaign about a month ago, so I have my fingers crossed to book this one. I should know by the end of the week about callbacks.

Saturday night I went with 20 friends to a Pirate Dinner Theatre adventure. It was kind of like Medieval Times but instead of horses and jousting it was water and sword fighting. We took a limo from a house in Burbank down to Orange County and back, which made the experience even more fun. When we got back, more people came over and we had a big house party.

Weekend

I had a really great, really busy weekend. I had an audition on Friday for a Kohl's commercial so I'm waiting to hear back about that. Friday night I went to a friend's birthday party and then I got up early on Saturday morning to go to a screening of 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.' I really enjoyed it and can't wait until the next one comes out!

After the screening I went to a pool party and then to a theme party that was called the Governor's Ball. The picture above is from the ball. I went to junior high school with most of these people in Chicago, and now we all live in Los Angeles:)

Yesterday I went to see a friend's play and then I watched the second episode of Hung with some friends. Also, I was able to add my episode of "My Life Plus Animals" to my website. CLICK HERE and then watch the third video to check it out!

Oleanna/4th of July

My 4th of July weekend was super busy and a lot of fun. My cousin from England came to visit and we started each morning on the beach doing yoga! We went to Santa Monica/Venice Beach on Friday and to Paradise Cove in Malibu on Sunday. I spent Saturday BBQ hopping.

Last night I went to see the play Oleanna at the Mark Taper Forum downtown and it was fantastic! Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles are the two actors in it and they both did a wonderful job. It is such a great play and I really enjoyed it.

More auditions:)

Friday morning I had to go and get a tetanus shot because last night I cut my foot really badly on a nail that was sticking out of the carpet in the middle of one of my stairs. That was not fun, but right after that I had an audition for a Hodgkin's Disease Public Service Announcement. The audition went well, so I'm hoping to hear about callbacks later this week!

Movie Weekend

Friday morning I went and saw Year One for free since I'm a member of SAG. It was really funny. Then in the evening I went with a huge group of people to a different theatre to see The Proposal. I usually am not big on romantic comedies, but I enjoyed it. It had humor and heart and a great story.

Saturday during the day I was invited to read a character of a new indie feature film at the very first table read of the script! It was a lot of fun and the script was great! After hearing it read aloud the writer will be making changes and hopefully I will be cast in the film when it starts shooting.

Saturday evening I went with a group of friends to see a free outdoor screening of the original Muppet's movie. It was a special event that was part of the LA Film Festival that is being held near the UCLA campus. The movie was different than I remembered it and it was fun to watch it with my friends whispering commentary to each other.

Today I didn't watch any movies but I did have my first rehearsal for the play I'm doing. It went well and it was nice to meet the rest of the cast and start right in on blocking after reading through the script. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Commercial Shoot

I had so much fun on set yesterday! I got there a little before my 9AM call time and went to have my hair and make-up done. I changed into my wardrobe and then hung around for a few hours in the make-up trailer while I waited to be called to set.

Once I got to set, I met Geordie, the director, and Bryan, the actor I was going to be working with. We spent about an hour and a half shooting different variations of the dialogue and re-shooting with different adjustments that Geordie gave us.

Then we broke for an hour lunch and Bryan, the other three actors in the commercial and I ate and then hung out in the trailer talking and listening to music.

After lunch we shot a different part of the commercial and then I had to record some "wild track" dialogue. That means they had me in a room with a microphone just recording dialogue over and over that will be edited into the commercial. It is amazing how long it takes for a 30 or 60 second spot to get made!

The whole day was a lot of fun and I can't wait to see which parts of what we shot end up in the final commercial:)

Amazing

This past weekend was a lot of fun. I went to see the movie 'UP' at the El Capitan theatre in Hollywood. It was in 3-D and there was a live Disney pre-show beforehand. The movie itself was really cute. Then on Sunday I co-hosted a Tony Awards party. We played theatre trivia games and everyone dressed up as their favorite theatre character.

Yesterday I had a wardrobe fitting for my commercial. The three wardrobe girls were really nice and I officially met the director. At the fitting they had me try on 10 outfits and then took a bunch of pictures so the producers and ad agency people can decide what they want me to wear. My shoot date is Wednesday and I can't wait!

After my fitting I went to visit my friend, Joe at work, who works on the show Californication. They had just wrapped shooting for the day and so we went on an impromptu trip to the beach! Nothing beats living in Los Angeles and being able to work some and play some all in the same day:)

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Commercial Booking!

My agent just called and said that I booked the Old Country Buffet Commercial:) That means that I have a fitting next week and then will be on set shooting for a day! I'm so excited:) :) :)

Callbacks!

I had a callback on Friday for the Old Country Buffet commercial I auditioned for last week and it went really well. Callbacks are the best because you have to wear the same outfit and usually do the same thing you did at the first audition. You know what to expect and they already like you, there are just more people in the room. The director and people from the ad agency usually attend the callbacks.

In the commercial my character just reacts to what's going on and as I was doing my reactions, everyone from the ad agency was laughing. Then when I finished the director said "You are really funny. You win." That could mean everything, or nothing, you never know. He really seemed to like me, though, and I am hoping to get it. Fingers crossed!

Update

I've had a busy few days. I had an Old Country Buffet commercial audition that I'm waiting to hear back from and the rest of my week was filled with productive meetings and events.

I spent most of Memorial Day weekend a little under the weather but I still made it to a few BBQs. Several of my friends had people visiting from out of town, so I hung out with some new friends. Sunday I went to a BBQ and then snuck out for a little while to see a friend's improv show. When I got back, the BBQing was done but a backyard bonfire was going strong. The next day I went to a BBQ in the park and learned how to play Bocce Ball. In the evening I went to a friend's surprise birthday party and now its back to work:)

I have an audition tonight for a play, so we shall see!

Zombo

This evening I went to a friend's short film debut at a screening for the USC Masters program. He was the title character in a movie called Zombo, which is musical about a zombie who dreams of being a theater actor. There were two other films shown at the screening, one called My Inner Fat Kid and the other called Get Some. All of the films were good and my friend did an excellent job. Zombo was really funny and it made fun of musicals, horror films and life in general all in a 15 minute short. After the screening there was a little reception in the courtyard with food and wine.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Mother's Day!

Showcase

Last night was the final evening of my scene study class. A few casting directors came to watch and so did a few of my friends. Everyone did really well and my scene went the best it has ever gone! After the scenes we went out as a class with the audience to a bar down the street to celebrate the end of class and Cinco de Mayo. It was a very productive, fun evening.

My auditions on Saturday went well. I am still waiting to hear back from the producers of 'Babes and Brides'. I think my audition went well and I REALLY want to be in the show.

Socially I have been going to a lot of BBQs. The weather in LA has been perfect these past few days. It is not too hot but not chilly and the sun has been out. I think this weekend has more BBQs and a potential pool party in store!

Bummer

Last night I got a call from my agent that I got a callback for my Southwest Airlines commercial! The callback was supposed to be at 4:40 today but then this morning just after 11 I got a call that they had already found what they wanted and were cancelling the afternoon session:( Oh well, more to come...

Auditions!

My Saturday is filling up with auditions, which is great! Three friends of mine are in the process of producing two different plays, and both of them have invited me to come audition! One production is of Steve Martin's 'Picasso at the Lapin Agile' and the other is of two one act plays.

Also, last night was my last official scene study class. We have one more "class" next week but it is actually the class where we do our scenes with minimal props and invite different industry guests and friends. My scene went well last night and I'm really looking forward to next week!

Boo Jury Duty

So Jury Duty took 8 days and I was NOT pleased with the results of the trial. Yesterday when we finished deliberating and were released I went to visit my agent and her daughter was in the office. She is 4 so it is always a treat to play with her:)

Today I had a commercial audition and it was with a casting director who I've auditioned for 5 or 6 times. Hopefully I will book with this office soon, because they obviously like me if they keep having me back to audition! I will be flying to Dallas for 5 days if I get this spot! Fingers crossed!

Jury Duty

This has been a crazy week for me! I was summonsed for jury duty and fully expected to go in on Tuesday, wait in a room for a day and then go home, as that has been the experience of a lot of my friends who have had jury duty in California. By luck of the draw, I was called to be questioned to serve on the jury of a trial and I managed to get selected! It is a 4-6 day case, so I will hopefully be done by Wednesday.

It is actually pretty interesting to see the justice process and it is only 4 hours in the afternoon so I still made it to my acting class Tuesday night and a free cold reading workshop at SAG last night.

Audition

April has been quite an exciting month for me so far! I found a website today that tells how well movies do at the box office and The River Within is listed! Click Here if you don't believe that we grossed $9,811 dollars in our first weekend at the box office!

Last night I auditioned for a production of Oklahoma at the Glendale Centre Theatre. I think it went really well and everyone in the room seemed to like me. I am out of town one of the weekends of the show because it runs for several months, so I'm not sure if I will get cast or not unless they use understudies. If I don't get cast in this show, I have a feeling I will be in one of their next shows because I did well and I just felt good energy from the experience.

Tonight I had my acting class. We moved to a different theater space that is SOOOO much nicer than where we had been meeting. There are a few more classes left and then May 5th is our "showcase" where other actors, casting directors, agents etc will come to watch. My scene is from a play called Split and it is coming along really well.

Photos

The autograph signing last night was a lot of fun. It was really interesting to hear what people thought of the movie. We were asked lots of questions about shooting and our characters and other people said how much they enjoyed it. The River Within beat Fast and the Furious at the Paragould Cinema 8 Box Office by 99 tickets Friday night! We were sold out for three of the four shows yesterday and the Sunday matinee is sold out from pre-sales!
The pictures above are from the red carpet premier. The first photo is of fellow actors Craig Morris and Maurice Mejia posing in front of the Limo that took us to the premier. The second photo is before the movie opened. It is a photo of the coming soon display at the theater. The third photo is me posing on the red carpet.

PREMIER

Last night was the cast and crew screening of The River Within and it was so much fun. The cast and crew rode to the theater in a limo and when we arrived there was a red carpet. We all walked the red carpet and a bunch of people were talking pictures.

The final cut of the movie is REALLY good and after the screening they called the lead actors and the director down front and introduced us. Then they presented us with roses. The mayor of Paragould, Arkansas presented the director, Zac Heath with a plaque and declared April 2nd Official River Within Day in Arkansas.

After the premier there was a party which lasted until 4 AM. At the party, the cast was interviewed for the behind scenes features for the DVDs. This morning we all got up and promoted the movie on a radio talk show. The movie officially opens at the Paragould Cinema 8 today and this evening the cast and crew is going to be at the theater signing movie posters! It has been an AMAZING week!

Check back on Sunday for an update on how the autograph signing went and photos from the red carpet!

The River Within

The River Within premiered the other night at the Ozark Foothills Film Festival and the director said it was very well received. I leave on Tuesday to go to the red carpet cast and crew screening and I can't wait. I am going to be wearing a dress designed by Trina Turk and I'm still picking out jewelry and shoes. Friday the movie opens for its one week theatrical release. Check out the updated IMDB page by CLICKING HERE

Tapings

I went to a taping of the new Ricky Blitt pilot at Warner Brothers last night and it was very funny. James Burrows was the director of this pilot as well. Apparently he directed 4 shows this pilot season! I really enjoy going to sit-com tapings because one of my goals is to be a series regular on a show and I learn a lot by watching. It is also fun since I have friends who work on the shows so I am in the VIP section and then I am given a wrist band to hang out for the celebration after.

Absolutely Fabulous Photo

As promised, here is the photo from immediately after the taping of the pilot episode of Absolutely Fabulous. My friend, Courtney is the girl on the left and Joe, my friend who worked on the show is in the middle. We are sitting on the couch on a sound stage in the "living room" of main characters!

Absolutely Fabulous

Last night I went to a live taping of a new pilot for Fox called 'Absolutely Fabulous'. It is based on the BBC version of the show and it was really funny. The director of the pilot was JAMES BURROWS who directed 'Friends', 'Will and Grace,' 'Cheers' and played the director on the TV show, 'The Comeback'. It was very cool to see him direct in person.

The show stars KRISTEN JOHNSTON, who was so funny, even between takes. She plays opposite KATHRYN HAHN and ZOSIA MAMET plays Hahn's daughter. All of the actors were great and the show is really cute. I hope the pilot gets picked up and the show goes to series.

I have a picture on the couch from the set with my friends, and as soon as I get a copy of it I will post it here!

My Audition

My audition for the AFI short film went really well. They called me in to read for one role and they had me read for the lead too! I hope I get a part in the film, the director and producer seem really nice! It will be a four day shoot in about a week. Fingers crossed!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Auditions

Last week was a little slow in the audition department, but yesterday I had an audition for a play. It went well, but it is an original work that I have not read, so if I am offered the role, I will have to read the script before I decide if it is a project I want to work on.

I also have an upcoming audition on Wednesday for a supporting role in a film for the American Film Institute. I've worked on some of their film projects in the past and they are always really good. The script is a 12 page short and it is an interesting idea. Fingers crossed!

More Auditions!

My commercial agent is really fantastic and she has been getting me out on auditions about twice a week. I had a really fun audition yesterday for a T-Mobile commercial. I booked T-Mobile once, hopefully I will do it again!

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Audition/Class

Yesterday was a really productive day for me. I had an audition for a Chase Bank commercial in the early afternoon. It was an easy audition and one of those spots that is almost totally looks based because there is no dialogue. Hopefully I am what they are looking for!

Afterward I went to my friend's house and we worked on a screenplay. We have unofficially become writing partners and we are currently in the middle of two screenplays, one that was based on an idea that I had, the other based on his idea.

Then I had acting class. I am in a 12 week scene study that is 4 weeks of Meisner (method acting) and 8 weeks of preparing a scene. The plan is that the last few weeks some industry professionals will come and give feedback on the scenes and hopefully hire some of us for projects they are working on. My teacher is FANTASTIC and I learn something new every week!

Valentine's Day

This year was the best Valentine's Day ever! My friends planned a "girls night" to see the movie 'He's Just Not That Into You'. My friend Leah and I didn't want to see it so we stayed home while the other girls went and we cooked dinner for everyone. When dinner was over we played girly games like M.A.S.H. that we used to play in high school and college. We talked and chatted and cut opened every chocolate in a huge box of candy to find the good ones.

Right in the middle of a round of M.A.S.H., we heard a noise in the courtyard. It sounded like singing and guitar playing and it was getting louder and closer. We looked out the window and realized it was 6 of our guy friends dressed in suits and ties singing a Beatles song while one of the guys played the guitar! They had red roses with chocolate hearts attached for each of us girls! When they were done serenading us they sprayed us with silly string, yelled 'CRASH' and came into the apartment. (as if we would have turned them away after the serenading)

They also brought several game ideas so we played games and told stories all night. Girls night was fun for a few hours and then the surprise of being sung to and showered with flowers and candy made the night even better. The picture above is the group right after the boys showed up.

The Doctors

I went to a live taping of the TV show The Doctors this morning. They filmed two episodes from 9AM until 1PM. It is a really interesting show with a lot of helpful health information. The audience give away was a free bottle of mouthwash! The warm up guy who gets the crowd laughing and cheering before the show gave me a The Doctors coffee mug, which was really cool! I love it when they have little prizes with the show logo on them!

What a Weekend

Friday was a really productive day for me. I went to visit my agent and we had a great chat. She always manages to help me re-focus. In the evening I want to a going away party at a piano bar called Howl at the Moon. It was a really fun place and I met a friend of a friend who might have a REALLY flexible part-time job for me! We shall see what happens.

Saturday I did laundry, went to yoga and then went to my friend Joe's birthday party at a bar called Residuals. After the party (at 2:00AM) when the bar closed, 16 of us went to my friend Clint's house to play games. We left around 4:30 in the morning.

Sunday I hung out with some friends in Pasadena and then stopped by my friend Todd's for a backyard fire. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. Then I left my car at Todd's and carpooled with my girls to see our friend Kellen's improv show. After the show when we went back to Todd's to get my car, I realized I was missing my jacket. I ran in and asked if he had found it, to which he replied, "check the lost and found". That just goes to show how many parties this guy has all the time, when he actually has to have a lost and found, as if his house is a place of business. I did in fact find my jacket. It was a busy weekend full of lots of socializing and little sleep, but it was also one of the more productive weekends I've had so far this year. I have a feeling this is going to be a GREAT week!

The pictures above are from Saturday. The first one is of me and two of my friends, Carl and Courtney at the bar portion of Joe's birthday. We were obviously looking toward another picture.
The second picture was taken on a self timer at 4:30 in the morning as everyone was leaving games night.

Audition

I had an audition for a cell phone company the other day that I think went well. It is always hard to read the people running the audition camera and there is little to no feedback. I ran into two people at the audition, which was cool. One is a guy that I know from acting classes I took when I first moved to Los Angeles. The other guy I ran into is an actor that I knew from my intern days in New York City! It is such a HUGE community because there are so many actors in Los Angeles, yet it is such a small world and it seems like I run into friends and acquaintances at every audition these days. It is a cool way to keep up with people who I wouldn't see very often otherwise.

Super Bowl

I went to a Super Bowl BBQ yesterday that was a lot of fun. My friend is renting a house in the valley, so between him and his roommates, there were about 40 people at their house yesterday. They have a TV in the living room and also a TV in my friend's bedroom. The catch about the bedroom TV is that it is a high definition projector screen. I was watching from the bedroom, and it felt like the crowd of us in there were right at the game. The TV in the living room was about a minute ahead of the high definition stream, so we had to keep the door closed because we knew what the next play was by the living room crowd's reaction! It was a really good time, as his parties usually are, and I saw a lot of people who I only see when he has people get together.

After the game, a handful of people went from the party to watch a friend of ours do improv. There were two shows, and they were both really funny. It's cool being on the west coast because sporting events and awards shows are in the afternoon and then the evening is still free for additional events/gatherings!

Crazy

My friend Joe's birthday is next weekend so another friend of mine decided to throw him a surprise birthday party this weekend. After he had agreed to go to dinner with the person who was supposed to bring him to his party, he ended up getting a job and having to work late. When she found that out, she told Joe that the evening was supposed to be a surprise party for him, and then she told all the guests that it would be a generic games evening. Joe got out of work early and came late to the party so we yelled surprise even though we didn't have his presents or anything since we thought he wasn't coming. Despite all of the "is he coming is he not coming" drama, it turned out to be a really fun evening.

Also, I attended my second red carpet event this evening. It was a charity silent auction to raise money for Life Through the Arts Foundation. There were a lot of kids from the Disney Channel there, and there were some big celebrities on the guest list like Candice Cameron Bure, George Clooney and Jennifer Aniston. It was a fun, productive way to end the week!

Beach Day

Being able to go to the beach in January is awesome! It is great since it is too cold to swim or surf, it is not usually very crowded in the winter. I went to a beach in Orange County yesterday that is a tide pool preserve. That basically means you can't touch anything in it and you can't take anything with you, but there are a lot of sea creatures to look at up close, in little tide pools between rocks.

I saw sea stars, urchins, several different kids of crabs and all sorts of muscles. There are tide pool rangers who walk up and down the beach looking for active tide pools to show beach visitors. They are really knowledgeable about what is living in the are and they also ensure that nature is undisturbed. While it is a peaceful beach with plenty of places to sun bathe, it can be very educational as a natural aquarium!

The picture is of two large crabs that I found next to a sea urchin.

Update

My internet has been patchy all week, so here is an update on the whole week, now that it is working again.

I went on a hike on Tuesday with some friends and we saw several actors from TV shows hiking with their friends and dogs. The park that we went to has outdoor yoga for free every morning so we stayed for that. I love yoga to begin with but it is AMAZING to stretch up and see the sky!

Yesterday I went to a friend's house to watch LOST. He has a high definition projector screen so it is like being right there on the island with Lock and Sawyer. It's the one show I watch on a regular basis and it looks like it will be a good season.

I've had two commercial auditions this week, one for a promo for the Bravo channel and one for a Pizza Hut commercial, so we shall see! The Bravo one was fun because I ran into several people I knew. Now I just need book one of these and get a new theatrical agent and I will be all set!

Premier!

So there is an official date set in April for the premier of the movie I was in. It looks like the title will be changing from "The River" but I don't know what the new title is yet. It is a dress up event and I will be flying back to Arkansas so I will see everyone I worked with again, which will be so great! I haven't heard back on any of my commercial auditions from last week but I feel good about this upcoming week! It is time to book something else!

Last night I went to a friend's birthday party and I ran into a bunch of people who went to the high school I would have gone to in Chicago if my family hadn't moved. One of them I had actually met before, four years ago on a visit to Illinois! It is such a small world!

Thursday, January 15, 2009

Park!

So far it has been a slow week for auditions but I found an awesome park that has EVERYTHING! Basketball courts, a playground, tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a walking track, a field for Frisbee/football etc. The last two days I have spent several hours during the day with friends playing any and all sports. The weather in Los Angeles is AMAZING right now, not too hot but warm and sunny:)

Screening/Weekend

The first screening of The River went really well. It is very interesting to watch a movie you are in with a bunch of people who just come to see the movie! I think people enjoyed it and there was a lot of laughing and crying at the appropriate moments throughout. Afterward, I got feedback from a few friends who came to see it and I also talked with some people who I didn't know that came up and introduced themselves and shook my hand!

This weekend I spent a lot of time with some friends in Pasadena. Two of my friends have out of town visitors here so we took them to Santa Monica and dipped our feet in the freezing cold ocean. Yesterday I went and played Mini Golf with 22 of my closest friends (see picture above) for our friend Phil's birthday. We got a round of Mini Golf and 10 tokens for the arcade for $6.50 per person, which is a steal! It was a lot of fun and the weekend ended with dinner at Outback Steakhouse.

I'm waiting to hear back about an audition I had on Friday for a Subway commercial starring a football player that will (hopefully)be a Superbowl commercial. I have always wanted to be in a commercial for the Superbowl.

Movie Poster!

It has been a wonderful first week of the New Year back in LA. I have another audition tomorrow. It is for Subway. Also, tomorrow is the first public screening of The River. The movie poster is at the top of today's blog. That's me in the fourth picture from the left. I think the poster looks great!

Verizon Audition

I had a great audition for a Verizon commercial the other day. I got there and ran into a friend of mine. We got paired up to do the audition together, which was fantastic. It went really well because we could banter without being uncomfortable with a random stranger. Hopefully I will have a call back. I think they are tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Cousin!

My cousin Marcus is in Los Angeles visiting from England so last night a bunch of his friends and a few of my friends went to a bar in Culver City called Father's Office. It was a cool place that had the tap behind the bar where the bottles usually are so people can watch their beers being poured. It was great to see my cousin! We caught up on the past year and looked at pictures of our other cousins that we both had in our cell phones... ah technology:) The picture above is of Marcus and me!

New Year!

Happy 2009! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday filled with food and family and fun!
2009 has already started out well for me. I got upgraded to first class for free on my flight back to LA, which was AWESOME!

Today I'm getting together with some friends to see the movie Bedtime Stories. Next week is going to be the first public screening of the movie I'm in so I'm REALLY looking forward to that. I'm hoping to get a new theatrical agent early this year and book lots of commercials. Also, my cousin from England is going to be here tomorrow, back visiting Los Angeles for the second January in a row! It's going to be an exciting year, I can feel it! :)
